Professional Sports Teams
Take me out to the ballgame! Check out a baseball game while you are in Bluefield or Princeton, WV. Mercer County, WV is the only county in any state in the US to become home to 2 professional baseball teams. Each team is a single A rookie team for a professional baseball organization.
Princeton is home to the Princeton Rays, an affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. Hunicutt Field sits in the heart of Princeton and is one or the newest, most modern facilities in the region. Bluefield is home to the Bluefield Orioles, an affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. Bluefield currently holds one of the longest running affiliations with any professional baseball team. Built in 1939, Bowen Field is revered as one of the most historic fields in the region. Bluefield and Princeton alike have had several players make it to the big league including: Carl Crawford, Cal Ripken Jr., Josh Hamilton, “Boog” Powell and many more.
Princeton Speedway
Exit 14 off I-77, 4/10 mile, clay, oval speedway is open May to October. Gates open at 5:00 pm, events start at 7:30 pm - Saturday evenings. The speedway seats 3,000.
